The Jungle - Part #4
by
Dr. Mike

We start with an overhead shot over the jungle. We see trees, lots and lots of trees, nothing but trees. The camera slowly starts to pan backwards and we discover more trees. There are trees to the left and trees to the right. Lots of trees. There's more trees here than, um, you could shake a stick at. I mean you would think there would only be a few trees but when you think the forest ends, there's more trees. Hey, that tree looks familiar. Didn't it play the tree second to the left behind the Lane's house when they did a long distance shot? Hmmm, maybe not. Well, there's a lot of trees in the picture. We pan across the trees as we listen to the following bit and the recap.

AP: (Voice over. Kind of scratchy since it's over a shortwave radio.) This is station KA3IIV calling WAQ4. Where are thou, WAQ4? (Beat.) Come on, Purple Peril. Answer me.(His voice fades out as he repeats the call.)

Daria: (Voice over) Last time on the... (Beat) What was the name of this damn thing again?

Jane: (Voice over) Wasn't it 'Pairings'?

Lynn: (Voice over) No, that's the one Dr. Mike is jumping over backwards because he actually found someone who liked it.

Daria: (Voice over) Now that's a scary picture.

Jane: (Voice over) You mean someone actually found humor in the clothes washing scene, (With a bit of humor in her voice) Lynn?

Lynn: (Voice over and in a deadpan) Um, yeah. (Beat) We're working on 'The Jungle - Part #4.'

Daria: (Voice over) Last time on the Jungle (Beat.) many, many years ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Jane: (Voice over) Don't we wish...

Lynn: (Voice over) Maybe we could bribe him not to write it.

Jane: (Voice over) Can't. His fans actually requested that he try and finish the series.

Lynn: (Voice over) Dr. Mike has fans? Could have fooled me.

Jane: (Voice over) Maybe if we gave him something else to think about instead of the story. (Beat) You know, he does have that thing about red heads with glasses.

It stays quiet for a few moments.

Lynn: (Voice over) I hate you, Lane.

Daria: (Voice over) I know where you hid that nightgown, Lane.

Jane: (Voice over) You guys are no fun. (Beat) And what's with Dr. Mike blowing all the budget on trees?

(Jane and Daria walking down the street.) Jane: Dad?
Daria: (Surprised.) Your father?
Jane: Looks like him. (Beat.) I wonder what he's doing in town.
Daria: You weren't expecting him?
Jane: No, I haven't seen him for a while now. Not since the whole family was in town. Last time I heard, he was on some island out in the Caribbean.
(Vincent, Daria, and Jane standing in the Lane kitchen.) Vincent: How about a job with me?
Jane lights up a bit at the news.
Jane: A photo expedition? Where would we be going?
Vincent: I'm going with a team to study a lost tribe in South America. It's a pretty full team but I need an assistant to help with the photo equipment. It might also be interesting to have a painter along.
(Daria, Jane, Lynn, and AP sitting in a booth at the Pizza place.) Jane: Well, there are openings for some writers and stuff. (Beat.) He's already presold his photos to International Geographic. Maybe you two could write the article that goes along with them. (Jane then looks at AP.) Plus he can always use another technical person. (Beat.) It pays good money also.
AP, Lynn, and Daria sit there looking at each other.
Lynn: For a month.
Daria: Yup.
AP: Doing something remotely interesting.
Daria: Yup.
Jane: With our friends and away from our parents.
The four look at each other and smiles appear on their faces. They do a clinking of soda cups and Jane's pizza slice.
All: Yup.
(Our group standing in from of an old B-24 Liberator.) Lynn: (Recognizing the blond.) Oh, you have to be kidding me.
Daria: Huh?
Lynn: You remember at the table read Dr Mike was going on and on about the one joke he's wanted to use for months now.
Jane: (Thinking.) Yea. He said something about wanting to use it since he started writing these fanfic pieces.
AP: You don't mean?...
Lynn: This must be it.
The blond comes up to the group with a hand out.
The Blond: Hi, I'm Mary Sue...
Daria: (Shaking her hand.) Well, that wasn't so bad.
Mary Sue: (Big grin on her face as she moves to shake Lynn's hand.) And, boy, am I a character.
(Come on folks. That's my favorite line!)
Helen and Jake standing by Helen's SUV. Off in the distance, we see the bomber lift off from the runway. Helen waits for a second looking at the plane. She turns to the car to get in but realizes that Jake is still staring at where the plane was in the sky. She walks back to him and grabs an arm.
Helen: (In a soft voice which is strange for her.) Hey, are you awake?
Jake: Yeah, I just got a funny feeling. Like I'm not gonna see her again.
Ext. View: A close up of two stalled engines on the bomber. The outer one is on fire while the inner one is covered with burn marks. After a second, white powder starts shooting out of it. It takes a bit until the fire is stopped.
Int. View: The cockpit. A slight smile goes across Mary Sue's face as she is again looking out the window. Half the red lights go out.
Mary Sue: Now, if we can just start one of those engines again...
Vincent: (Pointing forward white as a ghost.) Mary...
Mary turns and looks out the front window. She turns also white.
Ext. View: From behind the plane, up head we can see nothing but darkness. A bolt of lightning shows us off in the distance the top of a tree covered mountain.
Int. View: Close up of Mary's face.
Mary Sue: Oh, shit...
Int. View: The rear of the plane. The camera is focused on the four girls.
Mary Sue: (From off screen yelling.) Hang on, we're gonna hit!
Lynn and Daria look at each other in panic. They look forward and "duck and cover." We then see a hand from both of them reach out to grab each other.
Ext. View: The plane gets close to the mountain...
Int. View: The camera does a close up of Lynn's and Daria's hands. We can see their knuckles turning white.
Ext. View: The plane gets closer to the mountain...
The camera moves across a pile of debris from the crashed plane. It slowly settles on one part where we begin to hear the moaning of a female. A large metal piece moves slightly and we see a bloody hand poke out from underneath. It shakes as it tries to get hold of the metal piece and the moaning gets a tad louder.
Jane: (From off screen.) She's over here!
Jane runs into the scene and begins to try and pull the metal piece from where it lays. We can see that she is favoring her right leg. She also wears a bandage on her right arm. She is still dressed in the beige jungle coverall from the previous chapter but we can see some tears in it. After a second, Quinn also runs into the screen and begins to help Jane. She is also dressed in her jungle coverall but has a large bandage on her right forehead. The two of them are able to tip over the metal fragment and shove it out of the view. We see a bloodied Daria laying partly underneath another fragment. We can see from this distance her glasses are smashed and a trickle of blood is leading from a wound on her forehead.
Quinn: Mom would kill me if you had died. (She wraps her arms around herself to control a shiver.) Plus there's been enough death around here this morning.
Daria sits up real fast on that line. A little too fast as her forehead reminds her that it's there with a sharp pain. Daria puts a hand to her forehead.
Daria: Oww! Son of a bit... Dead? Who's dead?
Lynn, Quinn, and Jane just look at the ground and look sad. Daria looks around in near horror still holding her head. Again her forehead is there to remind her.
Daria: Oww! Who's dead?
Ext. View: The camera focuses on a long, low pile of rocks with a rough, wooden cross stands at its head. A dark brown captain's hat sits on the cross. We can see some dark stains on the cap. It looks like dried blood that someone has tried to wipe off.
Daria: So, do we know where we are?
Vincent: (Looking at the laptop.) Yes, we do. It looks like most of the computer gear made it through the crash without a problem. The GPS in this laptop is working fine.
Quinn: (Looking up.) GPS? What's that?
Vincent: (Still looking at the laptop.) Global Positioning System. We can tell where we are within a few hundred feet.
Everyone looks at Vincent who is still studying the laptop.
Lynn: Should I ask or does someone else want to?
Vincent: (Looking up.) Oh, sorry.
Vincent writings down the co-ordinates on a slip of paper and hands then to Lynn. She takes the slip and translates the numbers onto a position on the map. Lynn slaps down her pen in disgust when she is done and turns away. Everyone except Jane and Lynn gathers around the map to see where they are. She's still messing with her crate.
Quinn: Umm, all I see is large patches of green.
Lynn: (Not looking at the map.) For once, Quinn, I have to agree.
Vincent: (Downcast.) We're about 130 miles from anywhere.
Quinn: (Worried.) That's not a good thing, is it?
Daria: Unless you wanted to get away from it all.
The rest of the group gathers behind Daria and Jane as they start in on the jungle. After a couple of swings, Daria looks up into a stone face.
Daria: (Jumps and drops the machete in surprise.) AAARRRRRR!!!!
The rest of the group comes running as Daria recovers and Jane begins to pull the plants away from the face.
Vincent: It appears to be some type of totem pole.
They step back as we finally get a good view of the totem pole. It's made out of wood, about 2 feet wide and has 6 heads that we can see but continues over their heads. It looks to be somewhat old.
Vincent: That's strange to see it out here where there are no native tribes.
Jane: Umm, I didn't think there were any Indians in South America.
Vincent: Actually the totem pole or something similar is found in many cultures. The Aztecs used to dress up their columns with small faces carved into the sides of the stone.
Lynn: Can you make anything out on it, Vincent?
Vincent: (Studying it.) Not really. Archeology isn't my field of study anyway. (He pulls out the laptop and starts setting it up.) I will record the co-ordinates so that Professor Brown can come back and study it if he wants to. I'm not sure what he will make of it though.
Quinn: (Still studying it.) Those faces look familiar.
Daria: They can't be familiar to you, Quinn. It's from a different culture.
Quinn: Daria, listen to me. I've seen these faces before. (She points at one.) That one looks like "Jack."
Jane: "Jack"?
Quinn: Yea, before he got old.
Vincent: (it finally dawns on him what Quinn is talking about.) Jack Johnson from "One Life to Ruin?"
Quinn: Yea, that's him. They did an article in Waif magazine about where the hunks of yesteryear are now and he was one of them that they talked about. That face looks like that photo of him from twenty years ago.
Daria: A soap opera character? Isn't that a bit far fetched?
Lynn: Not really. (She points to another face.) That one looks like Jill St. Scape, the actress who used to do "Dishtowel," that comedy series that they still show on the Comedy Channel.
Jane: (Shocked.) You actually watch the Comedy Channel?
Lynn: (Shrugs.) Sometimes I get in the mood to laugh. (They all stare at her open mouthed.) It only comes every once in a while. (Thinking.) It's been about twenty years also since that show was on the air.
Jane: Ok...
Quinn: (Pointing to another face lower down.) And that one looks like Ruby Doo, that dog that solved mysteries...
Daria: ...from twenty years ago. (They all look at one another.)
Jane: ...Out here in the jungle.
Lynn: ...With no televisions.
Vincent: ...And no one to watch a TV even if one was here.
Quinn is standing under a tree looking at something over her head. It appears to be a makeup mirror tied to a vine. The rest of the group catches up to her and stands around her.
Quinn: (Happily.) A makeup mirror!
Jane: (Looking at Daria and Lynn.) What is a makeup mirror doing out here in the jungle?
Lynn just shrugs.
Vincent: Quinn, I don't think you should touch it.
Quinn: Oh, don't be silly. What could go wrong? (She reaches up to pull it down.)
The other three girls: Quinn, wait!
As soon as Quinn gets hold of the mirror, the vine pulls and a net hidden underneath the groups gathers all of them up and hoists them into the jungle canopy into a big ball. It takes a second for the shock to settle for the group. The trap spins slowly on a vine.
Vincent: Try cutting one of the ropes and we'll see if we can get down.
Jane starts sawing through whatever rope is in front of her. After cutting through about a dozen vines, the net begins to creak.
Vincent: Jane, don't cut anymore. I think that that's enough.
Jane slices through one more rope and the net falls apart, dumping the group on the jungle ground. Jane looks up off screen and gets a worried look on her face. Jane: Umm, guys?
The rest of the group look up to see a large number of jungle tribesmen armed with spears has them circled and they are approaching slowly with the spears pointed at them. Lynn does another wrist flick and out pops a pistol. The safety comes off.
Jane: (She holds Lynn back.) There's too many of them. (Lynn nods, safeties the gun but does not put it away.)
The tribesmen come closer with their pointed spears and the group gets closer and closer and closer and...
Jane, Lynn, Quinn, and Vincent stand inside a native hut staring at the door. It opens just enough to let Daria into the hut and quickly closes behind her. Daria stands there looking at the four of them. She looks uncomfortable as she is covered in necklaces of beads and wears a headdress made out of feathers. The other four close in looking at what she's wearing.
Jane: (With a smirk.) Oh, look what the cat dragged in.
Daria: No, I don't know what is going on. All I can make out is that they're going to have a feast and a ceremony in my honor tonight.
Daria and crew, whose hands are tied, stand surrounded by the native tribe. A group of tribal leaders stand on a small platform in front of everyone. A large object, covered in large leaves, dominates the gathering. Clue-masy Smear-if: (Loudly to the tribe.) We vel-comb the goddess Di-ar-rhe-a to the village of her children, Ami-rick-can Ban-dist-tard.
Lynn: (Quietly to those near her.) *Her* children?
Jane: (Smirking.) Daria, is there something or someone you've been keeping from us all this time?
The entire groups pulls up as what Clue-masy Smear-if said sinks in.
The group: (Shocked.) Goddess?!?
Clue-masy Smear-if: We built this statue in your honor, Di-ar-rhe-a.
The leaves in the curtain are pulled back to display what's behind it. Right before we see it though, the view changes to show the faces of our group. The jaws of the group drop as one and Vincent's hand falls from Quinn's mouth.
Daria: What...
Quinn: the...
Lynn: hell...
Vincent: is...
Jane: that?
Everyone pulls back and stares at Daria as she hangs her head. The camera changes to show the curtain as the last of the leaves are removed. It is a 25 foot tall stone bust of Daria, complete with glasses. The camera changes back to our group.
Everyone but Daria: Daria?!?!
Daria: This is a bad dream.
Jane: (Looking back in the direction they were looking at.) I'm seeing it but I don't believe it.
Lynn: (Ditto.) That can't be her.
Vincent: (Also looking back.) But it looks like her.
Daria: (She shakes her head slightly.) A very bad, bad dream.
Quinn: (Looking closer at the bust.) Wait a minute, that's not Daria.
Lynn: How can you say that, Quinn? It looks exactly like her.
Jane: (Taking a closer look.) You know, she's right. The face. It's different.
Daria: (Finally looking up at the bust.) Quinn, do you still have that picture you got at the wedding last year?
Quinn pulls out her wallet and flips through an extensive amount of picture until she finds a specific one. She walks over to Daria while looking back and forth between it and the bust. Daria also looks between the two until they look at each other, then at the picture and then again at the bust.
Quinn and Daria: Aunt Amy?!?!
Clue-masy Smear-if: And after the feast, we will have the ceremony where we will honor the goddess Di-ar-rhe-a with the sacrifices of those who she has brought with her.
Clue-masy Smear-if points to a large fire pit that was also behind the curtain and in front of the bust. A warrior reaches down with a torch and lights it. The wood goes up in a rush lighting up the bust. Our group looks on in horror.
Our group: Sacrifice?!?!
We fade out to black... (Pity we can't have more trees.)

AP: (Shortwave voice over again.) This is station KA3IIV calling WAQ4.(Beat.) Come on, Purple Peril. Where are you? Answer me.(His voice fades out as he repeats the call.)

We fade back into the scene. If you don't remember, we're looking at a large native village set within a clearing of the jungle. Surrounding the clearing are a large number of native huts, more trees (Gotta have lots of trees) and mountains off in the distance. Daria and friends, our film crew and the natives stand around in small groups drinking coffee, eating doughnuts and talking. We pan across the scene listening in to the various topics.

Lynn: (Talking to a couple of the elders with others listening in. She speaks with a slight British accent.) This new learning amazes me. Tell me again how a sheep's bladder can prevent earthquakes.

Elder Two: (In a British accent) Certainly...

Jane: (In the next group. Jane has a number of muscular tribesmen around her. She looks at them shyly over her coffee cup with a smirk.) So, do you like gladiator movies?

Random Tribesman: Maybe...

Vincent: (In our next group.) Feels like we've been standing around for months now.

Random Tribesman #2: More like years.

Vincent: Must be nice being able to go off and have a life while the rest of us stand around wondering when he's going to come back to us.

Quinn: (Moving over some more. She's blowing off stream in her own, special way.) I can't believe Dr. Mike made me the ugly one. I mean Jane's the one with the funny hair cut. I'm the pretty one. We all know that the readers really read these fics just to see me. I mean who cares if some poster on Paperpusher's forum wants to know why Aunt Amy is being worshipped as a god. What's more important is that Dr. Mike made me the ugly one.

Random Tribesman #3: (Leaning over to another tribesman, whispering and pointing.) She ugly. (A couple of the other tribesmen nod.)

Quinn: What's he going to do next? Make me wear drug store cosmetics and clothes from Marshalls? Am I going to get just a 20-foot tailer this time? Will I have to walk from it to the sound stage for each scene?

Random Tribesman #3: Does she ever stop?

Quinn: What about my three hairdressers? And what about...

Daria: (We finally pass onto the next group.) Pizza, bacon and lasagna.

Random Tribesman #4: That's all you ate on the series for all 5 years?

Daria: That's all the artists could draw. (Beat) Oh, wait. I had coffee on the last episode.

Random Tribesman #5: You would think they could draw a lousy sandwich.

Clue-masy Smear-if: (In our next group.) But what I really want to do is direct...

(The camera pulls back to show the entire cast. No one is paying attention to it as they continue to chat. After a minute, Jane looks at the camera, does a double take with a look of surprise, and speaks up.)

Jane: Hey, what's that red light on for?

Daria: What red light?

Jane: (She points at the camera.) That one. The one on the camera.

Vincent: But it only comes on when someone's filming or when...

(The entire groups turns as one to look at the camera.)

Quinn: ...or when the author's writing.

Random Tribesman #5: But it's been over a year since he finished Part #3...

Lynn: (What's happening sinks in for a second or two.) Oh, shit....

Daria: (Surprised. Well, for her.) We're back on?

Jane: Can't be. He's busy butchering, I mean rewriting Cynic Hood still.

Quinn: (Pointing in a different direction.) The red light on that camera came on as well.

Random Tribesman #3: (Pointing in a third direction.) As did that one.

Lynn: (It finally clicks.) Dr. Mike's finally writing Part #4. Places, people.

Quinn: (As everyone one else rushes to their places and into each other, she stands there.) But we can't. My hair's a mess and I haven't had my nails done. My fans will think I've become unfashionable.

Jane: It doesn't matter, Quinn. We're in the middle of the jungle. It's not like there's a salon near by.

Quinn huffs but moves back over to Daria standing in the center of the clearing who is replacing the necklaces and headdress she was wearing before. A couple of tribesmen quickly retie Vincent's, Jane's and Lynn's hands while Daria redoes Quinn's tie. The tribesmen pick up their large, dried fruit shakers and line the clearing. The elders form a line in front of the statue with Clue-masy Smear-if at the head.

Jane: (Picking up a script and skips thru it.) Now, where were we? It's been so long...

Clue-masy Smear-if: (He's flipping thru his script also looking for the correct page. He finally comes to a stop and starts to read.) Sheriff Lynn, Lady Scarlet, Lady Quinn, and other members of Daria's Group of Wonderful Women are sitting around a table in the forest. Lady Scarlet is carving a notch into her already heavily notched paintbrush. She looks up to see the disgusted looks on the other's faces and she returns to her carving with a smirk.

Daria: Excuse me?

Lynn: That sounds like the wrong script. (Beat.) I hope.

Jane: Sounds fine to me.

Clue-masy Smear-if: (Flipping thru another script looking for his place. He comes across the correct page, scans it real quick, and throws it aside.) And after the feast, we will have the ceremony where we will honor the goddess Di-ar-rhe-a with the sacrifices of those who she has brought with her.

Clue-masy Smear-if points to a large fire pit. A warrior reaches down with a torch and lights it. The wood goes up in a rush lighting up the bust. Our group looks on in horror.

Daria: And I forgot my marsh mellows.

Lynn: Better keep Quinn away from the fire. All that hair spray...

Jane: (Throws her script over a shoulder.) Oh, yeah. I remember now.

Our group: Sacrifice?!?!

Clue-masy Smear-if: Prepare the sacrifices. Let the feast begin.

(The tribespeople begin shaking their fruits loudly while four tribesmen grab Jane, Lynn, Quinn, and Vincent, hauling them over to the pit. Four village elders step away from the others, pulling out large knifes. They mumble prayers while they move towards their victims, the knifes going to their throats. Our group looks on in horror while the rattling grows louder.)

Quinn: You can't do this to me!

Jane: You tell them, Quinn.

Quinn: I'm not dressed for dinner!

Lynn: Daria, you have to stop this.

Daria: How?

Lynn: They think you're a goddess. So be a goddess.

Quinn: I should be the goddess. I'm cuter.

Daria steps up to the elder threatening Jane and grabs the knife out of his hands. He's shocked and falls back. The rattling falls silent at once.

Clue-masy Smear-if: Di-ar-rhe-a, what is the meaning of this? We honor you with these sacrifices so you can bless our village.

Village Elder #2: ...our harvests will be plentiful.

Village Elder #3: ...the fruits of our loins will be healthy.

Quinn: EEWWW!!! How can you say that?

Daria: I will not let you kill my friends. (She makes a loud stage whisper to the group.) If anyone has any ideas...

Jane: Maybe Dr. Mike is planning on ripping off the third Star Wars Movie.

Daria: Jane, I hate to tell you this but I fell asleep towards the end of the second movie when we watched them during Bad Movie Night.

Vincent: Luke used the Force to lift C3P0 across the Ewoks village.

Lynn: Daria, you can give it a try.

Daria: That won't work. Dr. Mike blew the special effects budget on all those trees.

Jane: Damn trees.

Lynn: Tell them that you forbid them to kill us...

Daria: (Turning back to the village elders) I forbid you to kill my friends...

Lynn: ...or you'll release your wraith on their village.

Daria: ...or I'll rel... (She turns to Lynn.) You're kidding, right?

Lynn: Say it or you'll be bringing us home in a doggie bag.

Daria: (She turns back to the elders) ...or I'll release my wraith on the village.

(Loud whispering is heard as the tribe worries and talks to one another. Clue-masy Smear-if holds up a hand and the whispering falls to silence. He turns to Daria.)

Clue-masy Smear-if: Di-ar-rhe-a, you forget your place much like you did when you first came to us all those seasons ago.

Village Elder #2: Continue the sacrifice.

(One of the elder moves towards Vincent but Lynn steps in the way.)

Lynn: Your goddess said stop. Comprende?

(The village elder gulps and turns to Clue-masy Smear-if for guidance.)

Clue-masy Smear-if: Continue the sacrifice.

The rattling starts up again but not as sure this time. The elders step towards their victims again. Daria steps forth again.

Daria: Spare my friends and I'll give you the secret of fire.

Clue-masy Smear-if: The secret of fire, Di-ar-rhe-a? Take a look around you.

The camera pans across the village showing all the lit torches.

Daria: But you already have the secret of fire. Imagine that.

Village Elder #3: (Making a motion at the elders with knives.) The fire grows dim. Continue with the sacrifice.

Quinn: Daria, you have to save us. I'm not dressed for dinner.

The elders approach again with knives held at the ready. Daria steps in front of the elder going after Jane again.

Daria: (In a stage whisper to Lynn.) Lynn, give me your gun. (She turns to the elders.) Release my friends or...

Lynn: Um, Daria they took...

Daria: ...I shall attack you with my fire stick.

Lynn: ...it away from me.

Daria: (Turning back to Lynn.) When did they do that?

Lynn: When you were unconscious after we fell out of the net.

Clue-masy Smear-if: Your fire stick, Di-ar-rhe-a? (He pulls out Lynn's gun from his robes.) You mean this one?

Village Elder #2: (He pulls out an old looking revolver.) We still have your gun from the last time you visited us, Di-ar-rhe-a.

Clue-masy Smear-if: Di-ar-rhe-a, I grow tired of these interruptions. Throw the dark haired one into the fire.

Two guards pick up the now struggling Jane and carry her over to the fire pit. Daria, Lynn, and Vincent struggle against the guards in an attempt to help Jane.

Jane: (Flat out scared and trying to struggle away from the guards) Um, guys...

The guards reach the fire pit and position themselves to pitch Jane into the pit. The rest of the tribe begin to chant and shake their shakers as loud as they can. The camera focuses in on Jane's terrified face as the guards begin to swing her back and forth as...

(We fade to black...)

Commercial #1

We fade into Daria, Lynn and Jane sitting in directors chairs on a darkened set. They're asleep with copies of thick scripts sitting opened on their laps.

Narrator: We join cast members of Dr. Mike's Cynic Hood as they practice their lines. Be sure to read Dr. Mike's upcoming work, Cynic Hood, the DVD Version. Chapter 1 coming to a Daria website near you soon.

We fade to black as Daria's script falls from her lap, Lynn's head dips to her chest, and Jane starts to drool.

We fade back into the scene. Our group looks on in horror as the guards begin to pitch Jane into the fire pit. As the guards let go of Jane, a large spear embeds itself into the ground between them and the pit. Jane falls over the spear as the village comes to silence in shock. She lands hard against the spear, her back arching in pain. A look of shock and terror appears on the faces of the tribe.

Clue-masy Smear-if: (Screaming) It's the tribe, Bring Croon-ner!

Village Elder #2: They're attacking!

Village Elder #3: Protect the goddess!

Attacking tribesmen armed with spears and wooden shields rush into village shouting war cries. The village guards rush to meet the attackers. The camera changes a few times to show individual battles. The two forces are evenly matched.

Vincent, Daria and Jane are shown behind a pile of wood watching the attack. Two warriors battle directly in front of them. The losing warrior is thrown against the pile landing hard on Vincent and the two girls. Everyone goes flying.

Lynn picks up a spear from one of the downed villagers. She gives it an expert twist in her still bound hands as she looks for a target. A look of surprise appears on her face as she crumbles to the ground. A grinning tribesman looks down on Lynn's prone figure. He raises his spear to strike but a shoved Quinn knocks him over. Quinn kneels beside Lynn and makes an attempt to wake her. She looks up to find three spear points shoved in her face. She gulps and raises her bound hands to the spear welding tribesmen.

Random, attacking tribesmen are shown setting fire to a number of the huts as villagers are shown running off in every direction.

The attackers are running into the trees. They carry both loot and a pair of bound bodies with them.

Commercial #2

(Yes, you get two this time.)

We start with a dark screen. (Yes, I like my dark screens.) We fade into seeing somebody's head wearing a large hat. It's back lit so we can't see who it is though.

Narrator: Cynic Hood, the DVD Version, Chapter #1. Who knows who (Beat) or what will show up.

The head turns sideways as we fade back to black. We see a fuzzy head with a long, hooked nose that kind of looks like an umbrella's handle. It's wearing a large, old style English Captain's hat. I wonder who that could be...

We return to the aftermath in the village. Tribespeople stumble thru the wreckage picking up debris, making repairs to the huts, and dealing with the dead and injured. Daria and Jane look on to a still unconscious Vincent. All three are roughed up with torn clothes. Clue-masy Smear-if, the other elders, and a number of surviving guards storm up to the threesome. They don't look too happy.

Clue-masy Smear-if: Di-ar-rhe-a, we must return you to your hut.

Daria: (She turns to the elders with a look of disgust) What about my friends?

Clue-masy Smear-if: (With a look of moral superiority on his face.) They are already dead. The tribe Bring Croon-ner eat their prisoners.

Village Elder #5: You need not worry about them anymore. They will be put to the knife as soon as they reach their village as a sacrifice to their false goddess.

Daria: (With anger in her voice) Put to the knife?

Jane: (Also with anger) We have to stop them.

Clue-masy Smear-if: (Not paying attention to the girls, her turns to the guards.) Bring the goddess Di-ar-rhe-a to her hut. Return the sacrifices to their hut under guard. Do not let any of them out.

Village Elder #2: We will continue the sacrifice tomorrow evening.

Daria is roughly grabbed by two guards as she is escorted off. Jane, after making a grab for Daria, is dragged off with the still unconscious Vincent. The village elders walk off to supervise the rebuilding of their village.

We fade in to show Lynn, her head bandaged, bruises on her face and her clothes torn, laying on a rough cot. Someone mops her brow as she begins to come to. Lynn opens her eyes as the camera pulls back to show a very relieved looking but also roughed up Quinn. Quinn, seeing that Lynn's alright, quickly embraces a clearly uncomfortable Lynn. As Quinn pulls away, they both look over to the hut's doorway. It seems like the entire tribe is standing there watching them. They are dressed as the first tribe but their clothing runs more towards purple and they all wear what can only be described as Harry Potter style glasses without the lens. And, yes, they're all armed with well used knifes. Lynn and Quinn look at each other and slide closer to the wall.

The scene changes once again to show Jane standing in the doorway of their prison hut. Vincent is still unconscious on a cot within the hut. Jane makes up her mind about something and begins to walk out of the hut. Her trip is cut short as two spears cross in front of her. The camera pulls out to show the two, very well built guards holding those spears barring her way. Jane looks at them with pleading in her face but the guards remain stone faced. Jane takes a step back, smirks and approaches a guard sizing him up. She feels a guard's arm muscle and looks up at his face to see him remaining stone faced. Jane throws up her hands in disgust, storms back into the hut and throws herself on a cot. The camera pulls in as a single tear rolls down her face.

We return to Lawndale to see AP in his room working a ham radio. He makes a call, listens for a moment, and turns behind him. We see his mother standing in the doorway dressed in her bathroom ready for bed. She slowly walks away as AP returns to his radio and makes another attempt on a different frequency.

We find Aunt Amy dressed in a purple shirt and black pants standing in her apartment that was shown in the episode Looking Thru a Lens Darkly. She is standing looking at a decorative shield hung on the wall. She looks off remembering something in her past.

We see a very handsome young male sitting in front of a pair of computers staring into a monitor. He's typing feverishly pausing only to take drinks from a blue plastic cup.

We return to the tribe's main hut. After a second, the double doors are thrown open and Daria is shoved thru them stumbling and falling to the floor. She looks back as the doors shut and barred from the outside. She stands, pushes a stray bunch of hair back into place, and beats against the doors in an attempt to get them opened. She gives them a kick as she turns away from them to walk around the room. She spies a decorative shield on the wall and, in a fit of anger, she tears it from the wall and throws it across the floor. She reaches the covered pedestal and, with a swift kick from her booted foot, sends it flying. A thin paperback book from under the cover slides across the floor. Daria angrily paces the room a few more times until she passes the book. She looks down as a look of surprise appears across her face. She bends down, picks it up and reads the cover. The camera pans to show the cover as...
