The scene opens in a typical hospital room. Everything is colored white. White
hospital bed, white sheets, white blinds on the windows, etc. We can't see out
the windows because the drapes are pulled slightly but a slight breeze blows
thru the windows making the drapes sway back and forth. After a second or 2, we
hear a slight moan from the bed. Lynn slowly sits up holding her head. She
dressed in a white hospital gown. She sits there for a second with her head in
her hands trying to pull it all together. She then drops her hands to her lap
and slowly looks around the room. She has a look of confusion on her face.
Lynn: Where am I?
Lynn swings her legs off over the bed and places them on the floor. A quick
look of surprise crosses her face when she discovers she has placed her feet on
top of a pair of white, open toed slippers. She slips them on and stands up.
Lynn sways a bit while standing there and it takes her a second to recover. She
begins slowly walking towards the door, gaining strength and coordination every
step. Halfway to the door, she stops and feels her back. Discovering that she
is dressed in the typical hospital gown that ties in the back, she looks around
the room looking for something to cover her exposed backside.
Lynn: Don't need any ass kissers today. (snort) Not that anyone would want to
kiss *MY* ass any time soon.
She looks down at the bed and discovers a white bathrobe.
Lynn: (slightly mumbling) That wasn't there before....
Lynn picks up the bathrobe and wraps it around her, tieing it in the front. She
then walks to the closet door and opens it. Hanging from a hanger is a green
jacket, an orange-red tee shirt underneith and a black skirt hanging from below.
Lynn sighs.
Lynn: No, I don't think I want to be my twin today. Maybe someone on the
hospital staff knows where my stuff is.
She turns away from the closet and heads to the door. She opens the door and
sticks her head out.
The scene changes abruptly. We see a deep blue sky with a large number of fast
moving pure white clouds in it. The camera pulls back to show Lynn standing on
a pure white plane. She's now dressed in her normal attaire.
Lynn: Now where am I?
Lynn looks at the sky. We now see it's some cheap cheezy computer graphics
work. A quick look around her shows nothing but white empty plain and the
computer sky.
Lynn: This is got to be some weird dream I'm having.
She pinches herself. She pinches herself on the arm.
Lynn: Hmm, still here. (beat) Where ever "here" is.
Lynn then whacks herself on the face with her hand.
Lynn: Ouch! (Rubs her cheek with the hand that hit her while looking around
again) Still the same. (Rubs some more) And that hurt! (beat) This is a strange
dream.
She then spies something off screen. From this distance, we can not see what it
is.
Lynn, Well, I'm not going to find out anything standing here.
The scene changes once again to show the same CGI sky with white plane
underneith. The camera pulls back to show Kevin Thompson, Brittany and another
male dancing around in a circle swinging their arms back and forth. Lynn walks
into the shot. The three don't notice her.
Lynn: Excuse me? (The three continue to ingore her) Hello? (still no response)
Some really bad 70's rock music starts up in the background. The three start
singing:
<sing>
You have a picture
Tapped to your locker
An image of AP and of Daria and of Jane
You love them all
But look at your life now
You're tattered and torn
You're hurting and fighting, sarcasism with smirks
that we plot until dawn
Hold them now
Warm your heart
Stay with them
Let loving start
</sing>
Repeating the lyrics, the three break their circle and march off the screen.
Lynn looks after them.
Lynn: Are you feeling ok?
Lynn turns away from the three and starts to walk off. We hear a wet squish as
she steps into something. She gets a look on her face as she looks down.
Lynn: What's this tomato doing here?
Lynn tries to knock off the remains of the tomato off of her boot and walks off
the screen.
The scene changes again. We see a hospital reception area. Helen is sitting in
a chair. Lynn is standing there looking around.
Lynn: Great. I'm back in the hospital. (noticing Helen) With Helen. Can this
dream get any more frightful?
Lynn walks up to Helen. Helen is just sitting there trying to read a magazine.
She's just flipping thru the pages.
Lynn: (to Helen) Hello Mrs. Morgendoffer. (beat. Helen just continues to sit
there) Helen? (nothing) Daria's mother? (still nothing. Lynn is getting a tad
upset now. She does the following in a really bad british accent) 'Ello, I wish
to register a complaint.
Daria walks into the room surprising Lynn. Helen stands.
Helen: Sweetie, why don't you come home and...
Daria: Your lover in the Catskills. What was his full name; do you know?
Lynn gets a surprised look on her face and starts to walk off not wanting to
hear this conversation.
Helen: (thrown) What? Daria...
Daria: This is important, Mom. Your old lover. My biological father (beat) what
was...his...full...NAME?
Helen: (thinking) Jerome P Smythe.
Lynn: (Whips around head. Major shock) Dad?
Helen: And I have no idea what the P stands for; he wouldn't tell me. Daria, I
don't...
Daria, beyond shock now, sinks into a chair. Lynn also sinks into a chair not
looking too good.
Daria and Lynn together: Forget VC Andrews. Today, my life became General
Hospital.
Helen: (fearful) Daria, you're not making any sense.
Lynn looks up and the scene has changed again. We see AP, Jane and Trent
sitting in a hospital cafeteria. All three look depressed. Lynn is standing
behind the table beginning to look a tad afraid. Of course no one notices her.
Lynn: Guys?
Daria walks up to the table. The three and Lynn look at Daria expectantly.
daria stands there for a second.
Daria: It's bad. She's in a coma. (beat) She could die.
Lynn's face looks confused as Daria and her friends react to the news.
Lynn: Wait a minute...The last thing I remember was wrestling with Ms. Li at
school...I'm in a dream...That I can't wake up from...
Comprehension dawns across Lynn's face. She slaps herself.
Lynn: Wake up.
She slaps herself hard.
Lynn: Damn it! Wake up!
Lynn slaps herself hard one more time. She then stares at the four sitting at
the table.
Lynn: Oh no. I can't be. Oh, dear god...
From behind her: Yes?
Lynn jumps and spins around and comes face to face with a very short, very old
gentleman. He's dressed in a button down tan plaid shirt with dark brown pants.
He's wearing a pair of round, sort of think glasses and is holding a lit cigar
in his left hand. He takes a puff from it as he stands there watching Lynn.
Lynn: (minor shock) Um.
Old Man: (after lowering his cigar, he says with a smile.) Good evening, Gracie.
Lynn: (still out of it) Um.
Old Man: (again with a smile) Try coming up with just a word first.
Lynn: Um, Gracie?
Old Man: Good. Now try for a full sentence. (Takes a puff of his cigar)
Lynn: Um, sentance?
Old Guy: You know, Moses had this same problem when I came to him in the burning bush.
