I'm reading Real Life this weekend if you want to waste time with me. :)

Anyway, I know I've complained about whos.amung.us in the past.  They appear to have fixed their issues and I haven't noticed any problems recently.  I noticed on their blog an announcement about them now offering a Pro Stats program.  Pricing starts at $5 a month and they throw in a large number of features, the biggest being an invisible counter icon.  They do mention that the javascript that runs the icon isn't going to work on sites like wordpress.com.  It's nice to see them put that in writing right up front.  Many sites don't do thing like that.  Give them a try is server stats isn't an option for you.
